Welcome to our September newsletter. We are back after our summer break and hope you are ready to join our autumn activities!

Repair Café
After a month away, there was lots of cake and people queuing to attend at our event on Saturday, so we we were all glad to be back!
Next month will be our second birthday, once again coinciding with International Repair Café Day all over the world. Come along and share our celebration cake as we mark two years of reducing waste going to landfill and bringing smiles as sentimental items are rescued.
Here are the details:
Date: Saturday 17 October
Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm (volunteers to arrive at 10am)
Location: Hoole Community Centre, Westminster Road, CH2 3AU
Volunteers will be on hand for repairs on:
- Small electricals
- Clothing and textiles
- Teddies and soft toys
- Bikes
- Computers
- Windows 10 end-of-life conversion to Linux

It’s recommended that you only bring one item at a time to the Repair Café, because you will need to be with the repairer while the repair is being carried out. If a specific part is needed, you may be required to purchase the part and bring it back to the café (either during the session, or the next one).
We are excited to represent Friends of the Earth at two events showcasing Chester Repair Cafe this month. The first was on Monday 21st September at Storyhouse as part of “U3A Goes Green” and the second is on Monday 28th September as part of the university Welcome Week.

10x Greener project
This month we weeded and watered, focussing on the raised beds. We also painted the large planter. Here is a short video
The results of our Britain in Bloom entry will be revealed at their awards ceremony on 27th October in Bolton. We will keep you posted.
As many of you know, 10 x Greener is a project to beautify the streets for pollinators and people, in Newtown, near the fire station. From spring to autumn we meet monthly to keep on-street flowerbeds in good shape with weeding, planting and litter picking. If you’re not involved, and would like to be, see below for details of our next session.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Please come and join us on:
Sunday 4th October at 1pm for an hour or two of gardening, followed by a cuppa.
Place: In front of the Christ Church, Gloucester Street, Newtown.

We’re looking for volunteers to write blog posts and newsletter articles on specific topics – so if you’ve got a particular interest around sustainability and can share straightforward actions, we want to hear from you.
Whether that’s on tackling climate disinformation, upcycling items, calculating your personal carbon footprint, or anything else!
